More Barrowmaze and some thieves throwing things

First, two more Barrowmaze miniatures.  Whittling down the box set gradually.  I used Agrax Earth Shade on these two guys. Eh.  I really can't tell if it improved them or not. Guess it's a wash, heh heh.

Sons of Gaxx

Next are two thieves from Grenadier's 2008 Box.  These guys were dipped in Quickshade and other than being a little shiny, look good.

Fire Elemental and Enchanter

I think these two guys make a pretty good pairing. I've had a few misadventures with dipping lately that won't make the blog because of quality but the Enchanter was dipped and came out great.

The fire elemental was done by following this tutorial: http://hot-lead.org/advance/fire_prac.htm

Mine didn't come out near as well but it came out much better than if I had a go at it on my own.

Ral Partha
11-426 Fire Elemental

This fella was familiar though I thought it was from some piece of art that had resonated in my subconscious.  After a quick search I saw he is modeled after a character in a famous movie.

Barrowmaze Minis using the Dip Method

So I bought some Army Painter Quickshade to try out dipping miniatures.

There were mixed results. Here is the first and worst of the bunch:

Juju Zombie
Otherworld "Monsters of Barrowmaze"

Not sure what I did wrong.  Too shiny. Over coated. Some spots seem to have no coverage while other had too much.  Had to repaint teeth and eyes, but I knew this was likely as it was possible to overpower the basecoat.  But I’ve watched you tube vids and I guess I expected more. I might not have shaken it up as much as I should have.

This was the best of the bunch; I believe his blue robes and purple hood dipped well:

Crypt Thing
Otherworld "Monsters of Barrowmaze"

I couldn't get a good picture of the second Juju Zombie by himself but here is the whole bunch:

The dip does cover some of the warts but it's still a work in progress.  I watched a tutorial that recommended using a makeup sponge to soak up some of the overwashed areas.  I'll try to remember to pick one up.
Anyway, it's become a game of "did I like it better before or after?"  Here are some more:
Halfling Thief
Grenadier 2008 Thieves
Ral Partha
01-128 Brigands Caravan
Loved how the guy on the right turned out.  Apparently whites dip well.  The left guy came out a little too dark.

Shedu and Air Elemental

I bet I started painting this guy and had to strip and start over at least 3x, not sure why.  I always liked the illustrations for the Shedu but I don't think I've ever encountered one as DM or player.

Barrowmaze Miniatures II

More miniatures from the Barrowmaze boxed set; tried a new rust recipe. Like it. Didn't remember to write it down.

Barrowmaze Miniatures

Here are the first painted Barrowmaze miniatures from the BMB1 boxed set.  Just dry brushed with my "stone" recipe.  May touch up with a little more olive.
